‌Solutions we have provided

‌LAPO Community Campaign for Cancer Control (LAPO-C4)

‌Cancer has become one of the leading causes of illness and death in Nigeria, with over 100 cases diagnosed annually—80% of which result in death due to a lack of awareness. The LAPO-C4 is an innovative, community-driven initiative focused on raising awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and control.
The project focuses on prevention and early detection through advocacy, screenings, and health facility referrals.

‌Launched as a pilot in 2016, the initiative initially targeted five key locations

  • Federal Capital Territory (Abuja)
  • Lagos State
  • Edo State
  • Rivers State
  • Imo State
LAPO Community Campaign

‌Maternal and Child health (MCH)

‌‌Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Programmes focus solely on supporting women in rural communities within LAPO intervention areas, with key activities including health awareness initiatives.

‌
MCH consists of:

  • ‌Federal Capital Territory (Abuja)

‌‌The program creates health awareness on maternal and child health through the production of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials.

‌‌Community Health Outreach

‌‌‌The LAPO health outreach consists of community-based health awareness activities that focus on extensive testing and counseling for key health concerns such as:

  • ‌‌Blood pressure
  • ‌‌Blood sugar
  • ‌Malaria
  • ‌Hepatitis
  • ‌‌Prostate-Specific -Antigen (PSA)
  • ‌‌Cervical cancer

‌‌‌Medical Outreaches are organized in rural communities with medical teams made up of volunteers who provide medical consultation and basic medical care.
Serious medical conditions are referred to secondary and tertiary health facilities.

‌‌Integration of Health Education & Microfinance Services

‌‌The integration project provides an opportunity for clients of LAPO Microfinance Bank to also benefit from health and social intervention services delivered by Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) during Union and Branch Council Meetings.

‌
The project is implemented across the country with health staff deployed to sensitize clients on malaria, family planning methods, pregnancy care, cervical cancer, hepatitis-B, child immunization, diarrhoea in children prevention, HIV/AIDS and the dangers of self-medication, etc.

‌‌‌Strengthening Integrated delivery of HIV/AIDS Services

‌‌‌In April 2014, LAPO signed a contractual agreement with the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) to carry out community-based intervention on Strengthening Integrated Delivery of HIV/AIDS Services (SIDHAS) in Edo Central Senatorial District of Edo State.

‌
SIDHAS was a USAID-funded, family-centred community-led intervention project that engaged with the communities to take action to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS; provide care and track the welfare of People Living With HIV (PLHIV) including Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC). The project enabled greater access to health care and support at all levels.

LAPO facilitates progress for everyone through innovative programmes aimed at lifting people out of poverty.
