LAPO Has Empowered Me - Glory Chigbu

An outstanding client of LAPO Microfinance Bank in Keffi, Nasarawa state, Mrs. Glory Chigbu was denied access to university education by her parents who considered money invested on the education of the girl-child a waste of family resources. She was also not equipped with life-transforming skills and was ignorant about the implication of son preference and societal discrimination against women and the girl-child until she started attending LAPO NGO gender justice and social development programme.

With knowledge gained from the training programme over the years, Mrs. Glory Chigbu has become adequately enlightened and emboldened to confront and resist obnoxious socio-cultural beliefs, customs and traditions deliberately erected to hinder women from assuming their rightful positions in society and actualizing their potentials. She is now an advocate of women empowerment and prepared to give all her children equal educational opportunity irrespective of sex.

She is equally happy with the health awareness programme, which she said have been beneficial to her and her household: “I have been taught the importance of family planning and regularly receive health tips during branch council and union meetings. I am now aware of the causes and prevention of common diseases like malaria and HIV/AIDS. I have been screened for HIV, blood pressure and sugar level freely. I advise women out there to join LAPO for improvement in their socio-economic condition.”
