Social Development

Our Social Development programme addresses the non-credit causes and manifestations of poverty such as ignorance, illiteracy, too large family size, low self-esteem and inability to participate effectively in the informal sector of the economy. Our social programmes include gender equity and social justice, social change advocacy, entrepreneurial development, legal aid, adult literacy and social marketing. 



One of LAPO’s operating assumptions is that poverty, beyond the lack of funds is reinforced by problems such as too large family size, malnutrition, ignorance and disease. Time and money that would have otherwise been devoted to economically productive activities are often wasted on the treatment of preventable diseases. Health intervention has therefore always been one of our strategies aimed at poverty reduction. LAPO health programme include maternal and child health, malaria and other tropical diseases, reproductive health including HIV/AIDS and water, santation and hygine (WASH)


LAPO Enterprise

LAPO empower rural farmers with affordable credit facilities to enable them scale up their farm enterprises and ultimately make them self-sufficient in food production. The department is also engaged in social marketing of health-friendly commodities as one of the strategies to fight poverty. We encourage the consumption of locally produced food, promote health-seeking behavour and the general wellbeing of community members. The enterprise department has consistently recorded impressive performance resulting in enhanced livelihood and increased food production in the country.


 Advocacy and Communications

The Advocacy and Communications unit actively promotes, protects and enhance the reputation of LAPO through strategic communication. It fosters innovation and synergy between programmes through the effective exchange of ideas and information both internally and externally and maintains consistency and uniformity around all external communications. The unit is continuously developing channels and activities to promote better understanding of LAPO and raise the organization’s global profile. Key responsibilities of the unit include developing and implementing LAPO’s communication strategy, PR events, media engagement, web content and social media management, archiving audio visual records and facilitating internal communication.


Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation

Our Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) department ensures that programme undertaken are mission-driven and outcome-focussed, in addition to providing us necessary research and analytical support. The department play an important role in designing LAPO development programmes, monitors progress, document achievements and undertakes regular impact assessment studies. It conducts programme-driven research in agriculture, poverty, food security and nutrition, reproductive health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, education, social development and gender equity. Findings help programme design and decision making.



LAPO has adopted a qualitative and strategic approach in managing its workforce with key focus on procedural justice, transparency, equality, respect for diversity, and recognition of potentials. It develops and implements LAPO human resource policies and guidelines to ensure uninterrupted services to and spontaneous participation of employees, which in turn facilitates the achievement of organizational goals and fulfillment of individual employee needs. Our finance and accounts unit performs a crucial role within the organization. The unit is responsible for preparing budget for development programmes, manage costs, finance investments as well as analyze cashflow, effective management and transparency of financial data and reporting of LAPO’s development projects, investments, donor grants, properties, employee gratuity, salary and tax loans etc. This has earned us trust and confidence. Our annual financial statements are prepared in accordance with international reporting standards.
