LAPO Improves Social, Health Status of 135,537 Community Members

In October 2018, Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) improved the lives of 135,537 women and other community members with social and health services across the country.

A breakdown of the total figures indicates that 33,805 persons were reached with direct health, social and legal sensitization in target communities while others benefitted through Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials.

LAPO Screens 11,649 Community Members for Common Diseases

LAPO has intensified measures aimed at curtailing the prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in target communities across the country.

In October 2018, the organization screened 11,649 persons for tropical health issues including HIV, malaria, blood pressure (BP), blood sugar and hepatitis. Those with health conditions were promptly referred to government-approved health facilities for further treatment.

LAPO reached 4,532,127 community members with cancer sensitization campaign between August and September, 2018.

The organization is currently implementing a 2-yearCommunity Campaign for Cancer Control (LAPO-C4) project in Lagos, Imo, Abuja, Rivers, and Edo State aimed at reducing cancer-related deaths in Nigeria with focus on prevention and early detection.

LAPO Campaigns Against Lassa Fever In Edo

The Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO)has intensified lassa fever awareness campaign in vulnerable communities in Edo Central Senatorial District of the State towards forestalling outbreak of the disease.

The community intervention programmes was carried out in major markets and streets of Ekpoma, Uromi, Irrua and Ubiaja reaching over 8,100 people, with plans to extend the enlightenment rallies to Edo North Senatorial District of the state.

LAPO Provides 462 Women Free Legal Intervention

LAPO provided 462women free legal education between August and September, 2018 and defended the rights of four others who were unable to afford cost of legal representation.

For decades, the organization has been rendering free counselling, arbitration and legal services to women who are abused, violated and unable to afford legal fees.

587 Women Receive Free Legal Aid

Four indigent women received free legal services between March and April 2018 while 583 were counselled on various legal and marital issues.

Legal Aid Manager, Barr. Vera Asenoguan expressed worry over the humiliating and barbaric treatment women are usually subjected especially at the demise of their husbands.
