LAPO Holds Outstanding Women Leadership Award, March 8, 2017

All is now set for the 5th edition of the LAPO Outstanding Women Leadership Award. The event, scheduled to hold on March 8th, 2017 at the Uyi Grand International Event Centre, Benin City, Edo state, was instituted in 2013 to honour and celebrate Nigerian women who have distinguished themselves in Business, Professional and Public Life.

In a statement, the Coordinator, Mrs. Philomena Elijah said the award demonstrates LAPO’s commitment to women empowerment, recognises and honours those who have distinguished themselves in their various careers with a sustainable social impact.

She said the organization has over the years promoted women empowerment and their outstanding contributions to societal development, adding that “by acknowledging and rewarding people’s excellent contributions, we are inspiring and promoting hard work, creativity and exceptional service to humanity.”

Professor E.U. Edosomwan, Director, Institute of Gender Studies, University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria will present a paper on “Women As Pacesetters In National Development” at the annual event.

The LAPO Outstanding Women Leadership Awards carry cash prizes and a plaque. The contenders must be Nigerian women above 30 years and possess a minimum of 10 years working experience. Contestants under the Business category must have a business located in Nigeria.

Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO), a non-governmental organisation, was established by Dr. Godwin Ehigiamusoe in 1987 while working as a rural co-operative officer in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.

The organization is committed to the social, health and economic empowerment of the poor and vulnerable, especially women in Nigeria. For more than two decades, LAPO has been in the forefront of bringing gender issues to wider attention, recognizing and promoting women’s contributions to the development of the society.
