Economic Empowerment for People Living With HIV (PLHIV) in Edo State
LAPO commenced Economic Empowerment for PLWHAs and PABAs project in 2006. The project, a World Bank HIV/AIDS Fund (HAF) project, was implemented in collaboration with the Edo State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA). The goal is to mitigate the effects of HIV/AIDS on PLWHAs and PABAs by providing access to micro-business management training and flexible micro-finance services for income generation activities (IGA). 132 PLWHAs/ PABAs benefited from pre-loan training (on credit/ micro-business management and positive living training) and flexible microfinance for business start-up or expansion between 2006 and 2007. The economic empowerment for PLWHA/ PABA was expanded to Delta and Kogi in 2008 with the support of EED Germany and Novib, Netherlands and is currently sustained through the programme integration with existing LAPO flexible micro-financial services.
