LAPO Marks Int’l Women’s Day, Canvasses Women Economic Emancipation

Lift Above Poverty Organization marked the socio-economic and political achievements and contributions of women to societal development during this year’s 2015 International Women's Day celebration.

The organization organized seminars across the country under the theme: Women Economic Advancement: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, as well as conducted free health screening towards promoting early detection and management of common diseases.

Delivering a paper to commemorate the event in Benin City, Edo state, the President of African Women Empowerment Guild, Dr. (Mrs) Nosa Aladeshelu canvassed gender equity and improvement in the socio-economic conditions of women and the girl-child in the society.

She identified marginalization, poverty and low financial literacy amongst factors militating against the economic advancement of women, noting that no significant development can be achieved without their recognition and involvement. Read More

LAPO Improves Social, Health Condition of 48,135 Women

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO) improved the socio-economic and health conditions of 48,135 women and other vulnerable people across the country between January and February this year 2015.
In a statement, the Executive Director, Sabina Idowu-Osehobo expressed the organization’s commitment to the social, health and economic empowerment of the poor and the vulnerable across the country. Read More

LAPO Screens 19,561 Persons for Common Diseases

LAPO screened 19,561 community members including clients of LAPO Microfinance Bank for common diseases between January and February this year 2015 towards promoting early detection and management of common diseases in Nigeria.

Health Manager, Ayobami Honestus Obadiora said they were secreened for HIV, malaria, blood pressure, blood sugar and hepatitis in programme locations across the country. Read More

Lift Above Poverty Organization (LAPO), a poverty-focused development institution marked the 2015 International Women’s Day celebration in Benin City with the theme: “Women Economic Advancement: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.”

The programme, chaired by Professor Christiana Okojie of the University of Benin provided opportunity for participants including stakeholders and partners in development to discuss and exchange ideas on how best to redress the marginalization of women in all facets of our national life. Read More
